Brochure Redesign

The Orignial Design

I completed this brochure redesign assignment as part of a module in 2nd year. In this module I was taught basic deign principles, from target audiences and the use of white space to theories on colours and the use of graphics. I gained great insight into the world of technical writing, e-learning and design from this assignment. I learnt that I have an eye for design, and that I like to take a more simple, clear approach when I must present complex information in a small space. This is an advantage when it comes to technical writing, as the discipline requires an ability to cut out unnecessary material and utilise the most aesthetically pleasing and informative for an audience.

If I were to re-do this design, I would have used a different programme to create the brochure. I used Microsoft Powerpoint and Paint to create the new brochure. In the years since, I have learned to use several, more affect redesign programmes, which would have given me a cleaner result overall. Learning the rules of design and the best practice in technical writings has allowed me opportunities to design more informational graphics and posters for family functions and community events in my local area. Learning how to best display information for an audience has been a skill which I still use when creatively for projects. While writing my Final Year Project, I decided created a graphic timeline of events, as I felt it more clearly laid out timeline of my project. I created this timeline using the principals I had originally learned from this assignment. The result was a clear representation of data, easy to read for an academic audience and which provided my project with more context, overall adding a framework which I could then work off of Sociologically.
